I’ve been using a small round (4″) mechanics tray to hold hooks and as a drying rack for flies. The magnet assures that hooks don’t fall out on the table when you’re getting the next hook out. You can leave hooks in it on the tying bench without having to worry about a careless jostle of the table turning a dozen hooks into the floor. The curved sides of the tray are great for separating a single hook and sliding it into the right position in the vise.
The edges of the tray are also great for drying flies. You can get one at your local Harbor Freight (or other tool store). The day I wrote this post, they were on sale at Harbor Freight for $2.99!
